-On Friday, April 23rd or Saturday, April 24th, Society members will be treated to a trio of afternoon activities at the beautiful Stan Hywet Estate in Akron - a guided walk through the gardens by a member of the horticulture team, a tour through the manor house to see the period furnishings, and a special flower arranging demonstration. Stan Hywet is an English style mansion built in 1915 for F.A. Seiberling, co-founder of the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, and his wife, Gertrude Seiberling. They named their 70 acre "American Country Estate" Stan Hywet, loosely translated to Old English, meaning "stone quarry." The family toured 20 English Manor homes in England to gather inspiration for the design of Stan Hywet. Mrs. Seiberling made frequent trips to New York City and abroad to fill the house with Tudor style antiques and contemporary furnishings. Today the manor house encompasses 64,500 square feet and is a timeless representation of a bygone era.
- A taste of Provence right here in Ohio! Join us on June 25th and 26th, 2021, for a trip to the lavender fields where we’ll take in the fragrant beauty of the stunning summer crop. Our day will include a tour, time for picking fresh bundles, and learning about the traditions of growing fresh lavender, drying flowers, and distilling it into healing essential oils. This trip requires a little drive, so we’ll send you home with lavender-inspired treats from The Flowers & Bread Society as well as recommendations for little stops along the way.
