Collecting and preserving plants was one of the most popular pastimes in the Victorian era. Men and women pressed flowers and foliates (leaves) to keep in botanical scrapbooks or in glass frames, for scientific and sentimental reasons. It was an inexpensive and exciting way to learn about the world around them and also a decorative way to commemorate a special place or moment in time. In this hands-on class, Leigh, an F&B floral designer, will show you how to create your own original floral design floating inside an antiqued zinc glass frame. Perfect for your home or to give as a lovely holiday gift! We will be using purchased pressed flowers as well as plants pressed from our garden. Techniques for drying your own flowers at home will also be covered. Everyone will leave with their own 8x10 botanical masterpiece and the knowledge to create new ones in the future.
