More about Wyatt Morris Woodworking:
As with so many other woodworkers, my life with woodworking started in high school shop class. I learned the basics, from tree to table: how not to lose limbs around large machines and how wood behaves when you cut, clamp, scrape, and sand it. It was all I needed to know to have a future as a self-proclaimed craftsman and join the rank and file who wander the aisles of big box hardware stores on the weekends.
All of that changed when I began an apprenticeship under a master instrument builder in the Berwick area of Columbus. I merged my love and life-long study of piano with my newly developed woodworking skills to learn how to build harpsichords under the direction of Ben Bechtel. Upon his passing in 2008, and to my sincerest surprise, he
willed me the woodshop and with it the responsibility to continue the woodworking tradition.
Another sustaining force behind this venture comes from the many lessons my grandpa, Sam Morris, taught me. As an aviator and engineer, he embodied the grit and gumption that has served as a hallmark of his generation. I would consider myself fortunate if a few of those traits rubbed off on me. Without him as a role model, I wouldn’t have had anyone to follow around and learn how to swing an ax, build a patio, or learn the diversity of four-letter words.
The following is the beginning of a venture that I’m calling Wyatt Morris Woodworking. I hope the products I create are an extension of the creativity and lessons I’ve learned from being in the presence of true craftsmen. Whether they grace the table of gatherings of family and friends or function as understated aspects of your daily life, I hope my products serve you well.
