Grilled Cheese with Apples & Ham
4 slices sourdough bread
Good mustard- can be Dijon or wholegrain
1 Granny Smith apple, thinly sliced
2-4 slices good ham, if desired
Good quality aged cheddar or Swiss cheese, thinly sliced
Butter, room temperature
1. Preheat a cast-iron skillet over medium-low heat.
2. layer your sandwich. Spread the insides of all 4 pieces of bread with mustard. Top one slice of bread with cheese, then layer ham if using, apple slices, and a second, thin layer of cheese on top. Top with final slice of bread.
3. Spread butter on all 4 outer sides of the bread.
4. Toast sandwiches for 3-5 minutes on each side, until bread is golden brown and cheese is melted and gooey. Serve immediately.
